Hello Jammers. We're excited to bring you our game: Blown to Bits. We hope you enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed making it. Blown to Bits is our 1 week jam-made fast-paced, thriller, survival shooter with retro-modern elements and a rewarding progression system. Created for the Whalepass GameJam #2. Set in a crimson forest where you could be the hunter, or the hunted.
The theme is Retro Revival, and we really didn’t want to create a basic retro-style game with some pixel art and call it a day. We wanted to put our own spin on Retro Revival, particularly the Revival part of it. The way we see it, we have a chance to bring back some of the most beloved factors of retro gaming and mix them with the most exciting and fun modern elements.
We would like to thank everyone at Whalepass for this awesome GameJam and their awesome backend. We really had fun experimenting with it. <3
Please let us know if you find any bugs, these are the Currently Known Bugs:
- If you die, upon restarting, enemy spawns are buggy and don't work optimally. Refreshing the page should fix it though.
- Multiple gun reload sounds and SMG shooting sound buggy and don't play properly.
- Settings volume slider doesn't work.
- Standing still causes enemies to attack you one at a time instead of consistently. (Don't abuse this, lol <3)
- Occasionally, enemies will get stuck behind invisible barriers around map. They can still be shot though.
- Sometimes enemies get suck in walls or ground
- Sometimes enemies will get stuck in their discoloured “shot” state
- Tabbing out breaks the game? Low FPS and music stops
- If you tab out on upgrade menu, cursor disappears, locking you
- Crosshair doesn’t stay red on full auto
- On restart frames drop intensely for a while sometimes.
- Enemies sometimes trap you
To add / change list:
- More settings
- Screenflash on taking damage and being low HP
- Randomising more audio + Making it more accurate depending on surface.
- Enemy scaling more with HP, MS, Damage etc.
- Timer + Kill count on Game HUD UI
- More menu sound clicks in game
- Enemy death sounds + particles + hit sounds + attack sounds
- Custom cursor + icon etc.
- Balancing enemies + spawns + scaling
- Return to main menu from end screen
- Slight audio rebalancing

- Pause menu navigation to main menu
- Equip audio
- FOV Increase with ms
- Ranged enemies + projectiles + more enemies
- Weapon balancing
- Sprint could be more powerful
- Add a crossbow

I like the game, reminds me of bullets per minute.
Atmosphere is EXTREMELY dope. Fog adds a whole extra feel to the game too. Also love the idea of 2D enemies in a 3D game, really adds to whole retro feel of the game.
Guns are extremely well made (especially the revolver). They sound insanely cool and make it very very fun to use.
Movement is very fun too, I like how fast the player is and it makes me feel speedy and cool when I'm getting kills at 145km/h with momentum and all that. The ground slam off a tree thing is soo cool too. I can slam enemies into the air and shoot them mid air which is super dope.
